Join the Women Empowerment (WE) Committee for our first rendezvous of the season, with the participation of Dr. Souraya Noujaim Director of the Scientific, Curatorial and Collections Management Department, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Mrs. Fairouz Villain, Founding member of Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Patrons Circle and art collector.
Dr Souraya Noujaim will share her insights on the relation between The person, the collection and the collector, as well as the Art Market collection dynamism and evolution.
Mrs. Fairouz Villain will share her experience as a collector and her views on the art market evolution.

The Women Empowerment (WE) Committee of the French Business Group aims to provide a platform for accomplished Emirati and French women to network, learn from and inspire each other, promoting the effective and influential role of women as business leaders, successful entrepreneurs, and vital partners in economic development.
Director of the Scientific, Curatorial and Collections Management Department, Louvre Abu Dhabi, UAE
Dr. Souraya Noujaim was appointed the first Scientific, Curatorial and Collections Management Director at Louvre Abu Dhabi in February 2018. She oversees and leads the curatorial strategy of the museum, the new developments of its narrative, the acquisition and research strategy as well as the exhibition programming. Noujaim is closely involved in the transfer of knowledge which contributes to training new young curators. Prior to her assignment, she was the lead curator at the Agence-France Muséums responsible for the scientific and cultural programming of Medieval and Islamic art.
Noujaim began her career at Musée du Louvre and has since worked for major cultural institutions such as the Arab World Institute (IMA) and the British Museum. As part of the “Grand Louvre” project, she took part in the opening of the first Islamic Art Department rooms of Musée du Louvre and in landmark exhibitions at Musée du Louvre and Grand Palais. She has taught at the École du Louvre for several years where in 2013 she held the Islamic Art History chair.
Souraya Noujaim holds a Ph.D. in Islamic Art History and Archaeology, with a degree in Museum studies and postgraduate research diplomas from École du Louvre and Paris- Sorbonne University. She also studied Arabic Islamic civilization at the INALCO.

Mrs. Fairouz Villain is a person that has always been active in the art and culture space.
After returning to Abu Dhabi in 1992 she became one of the three Founding Members of the Abu Dhabi Concert Committee. From its formal creation in 1994 the Committee, chaired by HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, organized nearly one hundred concerts of classical music. In 1999 she contributed to found, with the same committee, the Al Ain Music Festival which has now been repeated every year
Just after the opening of University Sorbonne Abu Dhabi in 2006, she created the Association of the Friends of University Sorbonne Abu Dhabi; she continues to serve the Association as Chair-person.
She is actively supporting Abu Dhabi Art as Patron since the creation of the first Abu Dhabi Art Fair in November 2007 contributing to many of their events.
More recently Fairouz became the Founding Patron of Louvre Abu Dhabi Patron Circle.
Outside of the United Arab Emirates, Mrs. Fairouz Villain is a Patron of « Les Amis du Centre Pompidou » de Paris, participating notably to the works of the MENA section of the International Circle.
In Paris she is also Patron of the « Association Portes Ouvertes sur l’Art », an association created to support artists in exile in France; she is particularly concerned by artists coming from Syria her country of origin.
Since two decades Fairouz has focused her collecting efforts on paintings and sculptures from the region; she started essentially with Modern paintings from Syria and Lebanon before broadening to Contemporary art, particularly from Emirati artists. She is particularly attracted by sculptures.
In February 2012, Mrs. Fairouz Villain was awarded the prestigious title of “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” by Mr. Frederic Mitterand, Minister of Culture under President Sarkozy, for her “significant contributions” to the arts.
