    Dear Members, dear Readers,

In a view of the French Business Group’s care for providing its members with information and business activities of interest to them, FBG member’s satisfaction survey has been launched on line this month. The results of this survey will be available soon and we will then undertake actions matching exactly your expectations.

Our Gala Dinner, scheduled for May 26th will bring you this year also (and thanks to the commitment of the events department) a surprising show from France and I would like to warmly thank here our generous sponsors.

Finally, as spring comes, FBG’s face is changing. Nadine Bardury and Catherine Vincent are leaving us. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I address them my recognition for their efficient involvement in FBG business development activities. Catherine Menet has been appointed new FBG Director and Salma Mansouri new Business Development Manager.

Looking forward to presenting the new FBG “feuille de route” in the Linx May issue.

Yours sincerely.

Cooperation between Abu Dhabi and French Customs
Abu Dhabi Customs have recently entered a cooperation agreement with the French Customs.
This agreement addresses a number of issues, including anti-counterfeit.
Within this frame, and upon a specific request from HE Saeed Al Muhairi, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, Mr. Anthony Brelet, the French Customs Attaché organized a one-day training session.
Aimed at custom officers from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Fujeirah Customs, this workshop allowed French “brands” to introduce those products the most subject to counterfeit in the Emirates, as well as to describe the companies’ manufacturing and distribution policies: Louis Vuitton, Lacoste, Dior, Chanel, Hermès, Legrand, Sanofi-Aventis.
Opening words were also said by the French Ambassador, HE Alain Azouaou.
This event is yet another  example of increasing cooperation between French Embassy and Emirati administrations in the area of the protection of French companies’ interest in the area of intellectual property rights.

A further meeting with French companies is to be organized by Dubai Customs on May 17, 2011 at their Headquarters (Ports Rasheed, Dubai). This meeting will focus on new procedures, including the “trademark recordal system”.  Precise information about times, hall and agenda will be forwarded in due time.

  Business activity at 20-month high

UAE output, new orders up, job creation fastest in 15 months

By Reuters Published Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Private sector business activity in the UAE hit a 20-month high in March as new orders rose sharply despite regional unrest, a purchasing managers’ survey showed on Tuesday.
The HSBC UAE Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), which measures the performance of the OPEC member’s manufacturing and services sectors, rose to 54.7 points in March, its highest level since the series began in August 2009.
It stood at 54.3 points in February, holding above the 50-point mark that separates growth from contraction, the survey of 400 private sector firms showed.
“The readings are positive and continue to point to a recovery that is slowly regaining speed. We’ll need to wait a little longer to gauge the effect of regional unrest on the UAE’s performance, however,” said Simon Williams, Chief Economist for MENA at HSBC Bank in Dubai.
